Musings: On the Road – Literally.

Recently I was asked this question as part of an ice-breaker exercise: “Name one thing you’d like to do or see in your life that you have not yet seen or done.” I mean, how does one answer that!?! There are so many things I have yet to see and do! But then when I really thought about it, the answer was much simpler than I imagined.

I have been all over the world and the United States. But most of my US travel was when I ran my company. When I traveled, I was always on a tight schedule and was focused on business. Even though I have been all over the US, I had not really experienced this great country of ours. Since I can remember, I’ve wanted to drive across the country in a convertible on ‘roads less traveled’ to truly see the beauty of America but have never found the time. So now, I am going to find the time.

I will share with you my itinerary and post every day from the road my adventures. Much of my plan is to travel to places that have historical significance to the books I am writing. The other objective is to travel on only two-lane highways (if we can) and take in the beauty. It’s going to take some time, but isn’t that the point? We’re taking a northern route and will also cross into Canada for a portion of the journey (too darned hot in August in the South!) But I do have to bring my car back home sometime, so perhaps we’ll take the southern route in the autumn when things cool down. I’m not leaving until August 18 after I get my youngest son off to college in North Carolina. So you have another week or so of my normal posts before my husband and I set sail!

Meanwhile, check out this VERY cool map of Epic Literary Road Trips. It’s impressive!
